Pyjama Day – Celebrating World Mental Health Day 2019
On the 10th October 2019, Lamp are celebrating World Mental Health Day to highlight the impact of mental health in our everyday lives. So, we want YOU to get involved, by wearing your pyjamas to school, to work, or even to the shops! But first…
Let’s Talk About: why we wear pyjamas.
Pyjamas symbolise for the vast majority the idea of comfort; like the Danish lifestyle trend of Hygge, which encompasses a feeling of cosy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life. Pyjamas can for many, embody this feeling.
Other times, they can symbolise a safety blanket for those going through the many things that life can throw at you. Like stress, illness, or any other mental health issue, or maybe you are having ‘just one of those days’.
Pyjamas are versatile. They allow individuals to signal to others when things might not be going so great. This reduces the feeling of needing to talk at times you may not want to. They can allow us on this day to signify solidarity with those in need without words. Which is why we are holding a pyjama day where Lamp staff will be wearing their pyjamas in the office. But, we would like for you to join us!
If you are a school, workplace, community group, or just yourself at home in your pjs, looking to show your support for a worldwide mental health awareness day, please join us in wearing your pyjamas on Thursday 10th October 2019! If you are looking to fundraise in support of Lamp on World Mental Health Day, whilst holding your pj day you could ask for a suggested donation of, for example, £2 for every person who participates, which would be a fantastic act of kindness that we would very much appreciate.
You can tag us in your photos using the hashtag #LampPJDay, or send your photos to us at communications@lampdirect.org.uk.
So lets put on our pyjamas and spread awareness for World Mental Health Day 2019 and beyond!
