Lamp supporters to run the alphabet during A-Z Parkrun fundraiser in 2023
Lamp, the Leicester-based mental health advocacy charity, has welcomed the news that Lamp Business Club members, Greg Hollingsworth and Pete Martin, along with former Lamp trustee, Dave Green, will be taking on an A-Z Parkrun fundraiser in 2023.
The challenge will see Dave (a retired Service Delivery Manager), Greg (Director of Hollingsworths Solicitors) and Pete (who runs Pete Martin Photography), take on the challenge of completing 26 parkruns (each parkrun is a 5km event) across 26 different UK and international locations throughout 2023 to raise £10,000 for Lamp.
Each parkrun will correspond to letters of the alphabet with the first parkrun set to take place on New Year’s Day in Braunstone, Leicestershire, and then ranging from Ashbourne (A) in Derbyshire to Zuiderpark (Z) in the Netherlands.
Runners of all abilities are welcome to join the events. For further information on how to run alongside the three runners or to sponsor them on their challenge, click here.
Greg, a Lamp Ambassador, said:
“The three of us came up with the concept of the Parkrun A-Z 2023 event after supporting the Lamp 5k annual event. It is meant to be a fun way to raise much-needed funds for Lamp. We all run together anyway so we’ll also use the runs as an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health, the importance of the advocacy services that Lamp provides, as well as highlighting the benefits of physical exercise on improving wellbeing. We have already been overwhelmed with the support of the local Leicestershire business community with 20 businesses committing to sponsor 20 of our 26 locations.”
Richard Kotulecki, Lamp’s CEO added:
“The A-Z Parkrun looks set to be a great challenge. It is especially heartening to see that our Lamp 5k annual fundraiser inspired Greg, Pete and Dave to come up with their own version of a community fundraiser to gather support for Lamp, while helping to raise awareness of our mental health advocacy work. In May 2023, we will again be holding our annual 5k campaign, featuring this year’s theme of mountains to symbolise a way of overcoming mental mountains or barriers.”
