Lamp supporter to trek to Everest Base Camp

Lamp will benefit from a new challenge that Vijay Kumar has set himself – to climb to Mount Everest Base Camp and then Island Peak and back in 19 days.

The fundraising challenge, which Vijay has named in memory of his parents, Satya and Ram, will see 65-year-old Vijay attempt to climb to Everest Base Camp via Goyko Lake, Kalapathar and Island Peak in a 19-day long trek.

Vijay will be raising money through sponsorship and will share the funds between five charities including Lamp.

Vijay will be trekking for between 3-7 hours each day, reaching an altitude of just over 6,000 metres. For further information on how to support Vijay in his challenge, through sponsorship or by following his progress on social media, click here.

Vijay said:

“I might be 65 years old this year, but instead of sitting back and taking it easy I’m going to get up that mountain for myself, but also in memory of family members and loved ones – in particular for my dad, Ram Parkash and my mum, Satya Vati. This ‘Satya Ram Challenge’ is named after them. My mum was the most generous-spirited, kind and hospitable person you could ever meet, and my dad was well known for helping many relatives and friends. I want to help their legacy live on by raising money for five fantastic charities. They are all charities that I know first-hand, that have touched my life in some way and have done so for many other people.”

Richard Kotulecki, Lamp’s CEO added:

“We’re so grateful to Vijay for taking on this gruelling challenge to support Lamp and other worthy charities. Vijay has first-hand experience of how our services can help people to tackle their mental health issues and we hope his trek will not only raise funds for us but help to raise awareness of the services that we offer.”
