Lamp supporter takes on Jordan Desert trek challenge
Karin Wardle has signed up to the Walk With Me Jordan Desert Trek, an eight-day challenge from the Dead Sea to the hidden city of Petra. Karin’s challenge will raise money for Lamp, the Leicester-based mental health advocacy charity.
The Walk With Me challenge aims to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, and to raise money for mental health charities and services across the UK. Karin has chosen to support Lamp in memory of a friend who took their own life during the pandemic.
During the trek, Bedouin guides will lead the group along ancient trails and over mountains, with up to eight hours of walking each day. At night, they will sleep in tents or under the unspoiled night sky.
Karin said: “
Mental health can be a very lonely state and having charities like Lamp to reach out to is vital so I’m hoping you will support me to raise some funds to help in their work.”
Karin will start her trek on 22 April 2023. If you would like to sponsor, please visit her Just Giving page.
Matt Barton, Community and Community Engagement Manager at Lamp, added:
“We’re delighted that Karin has chosen to support Lamp by taking on this challenge. All donations that she receives will help us to make a difference to people struggling with mental health issues and help them to realise that they are not alone. We wish Karin the best of luck for the trek and encourage people to support her if they can.”
Lamp’s 5k campaign for Mental Health Awareness Week from 15-21 May 2023 is encouraging people to take up their own challenge to support mental health. To find out more about getting involved, visit www.lampadvocacy.co.uk/lamp5k
